Kenneth Liu

Executive Director

 

Subdeacon Ken Liu has been an intellectual property and nonprofit law attorney serving churches, ministries, and other nonprofit organizations for over 25 years. Ken is currently Of Counsel with the firm of Gammon & Grange, PC  in northern Virginia, and serves part-time as General Counsel & Senior Advisor of Orthodox Youth & Young Adult Ministries. Previously he served for nine years as Director of the Christian Legal Society’s national Christian Legal Aid program.  He serves as a consultant to the Assembly of Bishops’ Legal Affairs Committee and founded the Orthodox Christian Attorney Network as an informal group in 2017. He is excited to now establish OCAN as a formal nonprofit organization and, together with a wonderful board, to expand its service to attorneys, the Orthodox Church, and the world. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Cornell Law School.

 

Ken grew up in the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church and, after discovering the spiritual depth and beauty of Orthodoxy, was received into the Orthodox Church with his wife and two boys, Nathan and Jason, in 2009.  He is currently a subdeacon at St. Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church (OCA) in northern Virginia and is in the OCA Diaconal Vocations Program. 


Joan Berg
Board Chair

 

Joan’s corporate and commercial real estate experience spans construction, development, land use, acquisition, disposition, lending and leasing. She works with her clients’ financial and investment goals in connection with transaction matters. Her construction and development experience include industrial, manufacturing, multi-family, and single-family development in Illinois, New York, and California. She is often called upon to consult on complex air rights and title matters. Her land use knowledge adds depth to property acquisition analyses with clients. She represents her clients from land acquisition through completion of construction. Joan’s experience with tax deferred exchanges and governmental incentive programs adds benefit to our client’s acquisition and disposition transactions.

Joan provides general corporate representation for her clients. She is counsel for her real estate developer and investor clients, as well as small and mid-sized businesses.

 

In addition, Joan provides counsel to various non-profit and religious organizations. She provides counsel to a Christian denomination in the administration of its seminary and is currently working the seminary in the development of on-line seminary and missions programs for use both nationally and internationally. Joan is Co-Legal Advisor for the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, a six-state region of the Greek Orthodox Church. In addition, she is a member of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America Legal Committee.


Louis Milicich
Vice Chair

 

A graduate of Northwestern University (both law school and undergraduate), Louis spent over 35 years at major law firms (counsel at global firms Dentons and DLA Piper, partner at national firm Jenner & Block), representing US and international companies, financial institutions, funds and private investors.  While at Dentons, Louis became the General Counsel of The Zaf Group in January 2021; he joined TZG full-time in July 2023.  Louis has worked and lived in Chicago/Lake Forest and in the Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CEE/SEE) region (Vienna, Bratislava and Belgrade). Louis is a founder and the present Co-Chair of the Chicago-Belgrade Sister Cities Committee (appointed by Mayors Hon. Richard M. Daley and Hon. Rahm I. Emanuel). 

 

Louis is a member of the Serbian Attorneys Association. He is also a consultant to the Legal Committee of the Assembly of Bishops of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA and an advisor to the Right Reverend Bishop Longin (Krco), the Serbian Orthodox Bishop of New Gracanica-Midwestern America. Louis is the son of Serbian immigrants from Niksic, Montenegro and was baptized/chrismated at Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, Gary, Indiana (presently in Merrillville, Indiana), where he was tonsured a Reader by +Metropolitan Irinej (Kovacevic). Louis has served as a member of his home parish’s Executive Board (intermittent 1981-1997) and was a member of its Building Committee. Louis was the Founding Chairman of the Parish Trusteeship of Saint Basil of Ostrog Serbian Orthodox Church, Lake Forest-Mettawa, Illinois (1997-2008). Louis has served the Serbian Orthodox Church on the North American continent in various capacities (Central Church Council, Diocesan Council, Advisor to Metropolitans and Bishops, Member of Reconciliation Committee, Member of Joint Legislative Committee, Member of Legal Risk Committee, etc.). Louis is married to Marya Savich, a Chicago lawyer (Travelers Insurance) who was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to +V. Rev. Milan Savich and +Protinica Constance Savich.


Jesse Roberts
Secretary

 

Jesse is an associate attorney at Michael Best & Friedrich. He focuses his practice on a diverse range of tax and corporate matters, assisting both nonprofit and for-profit clients with a variety of tax compliance, tax planning, and tax controversy issues. Earlier, Jesse worked for various members of Congress and served as in-house counsel to a committee within the U.S. House of Representatives.

 

Jesse is married to Catherine, who served as his introduction to the Orthodox Church. Through book recommendations from his father-in-law, Jesse became interested in the writings of the Church Fathers and Orthodox spirituality. He attends Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Parish in Lincolnshire, IL, where he serves on various ministry committees. Jesse also assists in legal work for the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. Jesse enjoys spending time with his family, including his daughter, Helen, and goldendoodle, Minnie.


Craig Godshall

Treasurer

 

Craig focuses his practice on public and private transactions across a wide range of industries, including health care, industrial, and utilities. Craig structures complex domestic and international transactions on behalf of leading private equity fund sponsors, with a focus on accomplishing successful exits. In many cases, he represents the portfolio companies of his fund sponsor clients in their add-on acquisitions, divestitures, and financings. In addition, he has advised special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) and potential sellers to SPACs on the dynamics and issues in selling to a SPAC. Craig has also advised boards, audit committees, and independent committees on sensitive internal investigations involving large multibillion-dollar market capital public companies as well as privately held companies. From 2007 to 2021, he was a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong and provides strategic guidance to both clients in Asia with U.S. transactions and U.S.-based clients engaged in corporate transactions in mainland China.

 

Craig is a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Elkins Park, PA.


Donna Haddad

Board Member

 

Donna is currently Vice President, Associate General Counsel, at IBM Corporation responsible for Cloud and AI. She is a Founding Board Member of IBM’s AI Ethics Board, and led IBM’s Global Pro Bono Program for three years. From 2011 to 2014, Donna worked in Dubai on international assignment as Senior Regional Counsel, IBM Middle East, North and West Africa. Donna holds a J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Northwestern University. Donna is a member of the Executive Committee of Law Board at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and is Chair of the Board’s Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group.

 

Donna has been active in the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese her entire life and has also worked with various pan-Orthodox organization for more than 25 years. Donna served on the Board of International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) for 10 years and has been involved with the IOCC Chicago Metropolitan Committee for 25 years. She is currently Teen Advisor at her parish and has helped launch a mentoring program for our Orthodox young people. Donna and her husband along with their three children are members of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cicero, IL, and St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Niles, IL. She has been involved in OCAN since 2019 and hosts the bi-monthly OCAN Women’s Coffee Hour. Donna is very excited to be a Founding Board Member and looks forward to bringing our Orthodox attorneys together in service of our church.


Nicole Sultani

Board Member

 

Nicole is a tax and estate planning attorney with the law firm of McGrath North Mullin & Kratz. Her practice focuses on federal tax planning, business succession, estate planning, nonprofit governance, employee benefits and executive compensation.

 

Nicole first connected with OCAN as a law student seeking community with other Orthodox attorneys, and is excited to develop the organization's ministries to the Church.  Nicole was born and raised in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and currently attends St. George Antiochian Cathedral in Wichita, Kansas with her husband.


Monica Youssef

Board Member

 

Monica M. Youssef is a Senior Corporate and Securities Attorney and the firm-wide Director of Transactional Training at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, LLP. Monica's practice is centered on advising both domestic and international companies across a spectrum of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, public and private securities offerings, venture capital financing, private equity, and corporate governance. Her expertise spans diverse industries such as technology, fashion and apparel, healthcare, media, financial services, biotechnology, and medical devices. In addition to her corporate and securities work, Monica is deeply committed to pro bono work, providing legal representation to clients in immigration, adoption, and social justice matters.

 

In addition to OCAN, Monica is actively involved in several organizations and serves on the Board of Directors for Mary's Path in Orange County and Ancient Faith Ministries. Monica is a graduate of the University of Southern California and Georgetown University Law Center. She is Coptic Orthodox Christian and loves to serve and laugh with the college youth at Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church in Santa Ana, California.


Fr. David Khorey

Spiritual Advisor

 

Father David Khorey is the associate pastor of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame  and Vanderbilt University Law School. He was a partner at a large regional law firm where he practiced labor and employment law for nearly four decades. He also served as chair of the firm's labor section for many years, and as managing partner from 2016-2018. He was a member of the national College of Labor and Employment Attorneys and the Michigan Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan State Bar Labor Section.

 

Active in the Church throughout his life, he completed the St. Stephen's Course through the Antiochian House of Studies and received an M.A. in Applied Theology from its joint program with Balamand University. In 2003 he was ordained as a Deacon and in 2010 he was elevated to Archdeacon. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in 2023 and attached to his home parish to assist in serving its growing needs.
